Below is a list of available Aquatics courses.  You can register for them by clicking the title and completing registration on the following pages. To register for Lifeguard Instructor or Water Safety Instructor courses, please call 402-343-7730.

Lifeguard Training
Cost:
All Year                                                $185 (32 Hours)


Description:

If you are 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career, American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start. This course helps you develop skills and experience valued by colleges and future employers. You will develop new skills and learn how to deal effectively with people, fostering a take charge attitude. You will also get a participant manual and tips for securing a job as a lifeguard.

Prerequisites:

Must be 15 years of age or older by final day of class:
Must pass pre-course screening on first day of class:

1. Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
    - 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick,
    - 100 yards of breaststroke, using correct technique (1 breath, 1 pull, 1 kick and a glide),
    - 100 yards either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke.

2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object. When returning to the starting point, the candidate must:
    - Hold the 10-pound object with both hands,
    - Keep face above the water,
    - 1 minute 40 second time limit

Guard Start
Cost:
Guard Start                                           $40  (8 Hours)

Description:

Designed for youth 11-14 years of age, this class provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course.
Does not certify participants to be lifeguards.

Prerequisites:

Participants must demonstrate the following skills at a pre-course screening:
   1. Ability to swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side.

   2. Tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs.

   3. Ability to submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater.

Water Safety Instructor

Description:

If you're at least 16 and a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and teach swimming and water safety courses. As a Water Safety Instructor (WSI), you can:
- Teach skills that may save a life.
- Gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional.
- Earn money or join a volunteer team, while you help people learn valuable skills.
- Learn organizational and presentation skills that will help you in any career.
- Help prepare swim coaches to prevent and respond to emergency situations.
- Make a difference.
- Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) is included.
- Includes a Red Cross shirt.
  
Prerequisites:

Participants must demonstrate the following skills at a pre-course screening:
1. Swim 140 yards with the following strokes at skill level 4 or better:

       - front crawl 25 yards
      
- back crawl 25 yards
      
- sidestroke 25 yards
       - breaststroke 25 yards

       - elementary backstroke 25 yards

       - butterfly 15 yards

2. Floating in deep water for one minute

3. Treading water for one minute.
