OMAHA, Neb. --The American Red Cross, Heartland Chapter, today announced important changes in support services due to declining demand and receding water levels in the area. Some of the changes take effect immediately and others will be effective after the weekend.
Following are the changes effective this afternoon:
· The Elkhorn Middle School, Comfort Center, 3200 N. 207th, in Omaha, will close at 7 p.m. this evening.
· Mobile feeding in Norfolk will conclude today.
Other changes over the weekend:
· The Red Cross will provide meals between noon and 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the King Lake location.
· Bulk distribution of clean-up kits, comfort kits, water and snacks at King Lake also will continue through Sunday. Clean-up kits will be available after that from the Chapter offices, located at 2912 S. 80th Ave.
Over 200 Red Cross volunteers and staff from 11 states are now working on the statewide operation in Nebraska. Client casework and damage assessment activities continue at a rapid pace, already covering a large portion of the damage areas. Mental Health support also continues across the state, addressing clients’ emotional and physical needs. More information is available by calling the Chapter at (402) 343-7700.
